Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acne?

Acne is a common skin condition that can cause inflamed bumps on the skin when oil and dead skin clogs the pores and hair follicles. While acne can affect all ages, it is most common in teens experiencing puberty. Without proper treatment and care acne can follow a teen into adulthood.

Yes there are including;

Non-inflammatory Acne

-Whiteheads:  Small white bumps on the skin when the pores are clogged but remain below the skin’s surface
-Blackheads: Clogged pores that reach the skin’s surface with the open pore appearing black due to oxidized sebum (skin oil).

Inflammatory Acne

-Papules:  Small, red, tender bumps on the skin
-Pustules: Papules but with pus in the center, appearing as white or yellow heads.
-Nodule: Large, painful, solid bumps under the skin’s surface
-Cysts: Deep, pus filled, painful lesions that can cause scarring

Not touching your face and washing your face daily is very important to maintain healthy skin. Avoid pore clogging make-up as well as a low dairy diet, full of leafy greens, and nutrient filled vegetables. These can all improve the appearance of your skin.

If at home treatments are not working our dermatologist may recommend;
Topical Creams & Antibiotics: Oral and Topical antibiotics kill the bacteria that causes acne, inflammation, and redness. Prescription strength retinoids can reduce acne-producing oils on the skin to minimize acne.
